We are hoping to be able to use technology to connect our family for bible study and to grow in our faith together through this blog. The Awaken series of bible studies that our church has encouraged for us will be a great place for us to start this connection. I am so happy to be able to be doing this with my mom and sister. We have bonds that can never be broken and now the miles between us will seem more like inches…
cool, this will be fun!! Sorry I didnt call you today! My grouplink went well on Sunday night, we did find a group and we will be beginning next Sunday night at our house! How did your grouplink go? Were you able to find a group? This will be great, we can do this on our own, through our groups and also together, it is always great to get everyones perpectives, I think it helps a ton to see everyone elses take on the verses and what they mean to each person! Looking forward to this!
Oh, and DONT FORGET your solitude time! Very important and easy to forget!
Hi there!
Just chiming in really quick on my way to bed! I did join a women’s group meeting at mom’s work at 6:45pm starting next Wed. the 15th. I am really excited and would love to share this experience with a group of women. I am also very excited to do the blogging, but I won’t be able to be at church in the morning – we have a Cub Scout thing. I was hoping to go tonight (Sat.) but forgot until about 7:30pm. Oops! I will log in and see what I missed tomorrow, but we need to remind each other to do this each day too! I will try sending emails when I do mine each night. Let’s make sure we really work on keeping each other doing this!!
Thanks Aprel for the reminder about the solitude! I am hoping to get at least some in my car ride with out kids soon. Are we supposed to have solitude each day? I suppose I could turn off the tv now since no one is watching it and I’m so tired I can’t think straight… That being said, good night all!!!
Well, here we go! I thought I’d get us started with some “directions” per Bob. I am going to post the day each night before (hopefully) and it will show the day we are on, the scripture we should use, the category it falls into and will have the actually bible verse there.
I found a site through the church’s blog that will get you any bible verse you are looking for. I will be pulling the New Living Translation since that’s the bibles we have. The link to that site is http://www.biblegateway.com/
Here are our instructions:
Easy 3 Step Guide
Scripture – Read a passage from God’s Word each day. From that passage focus and write down only one key thought from that Scripture in your journal (weblog). We recommend starting with the reading plan we’ve provided to correlate with the topics covered in the Awaken series. (We will be doing that!)
Application – Take some time to reflect on how you can put into practice what you have just read and observed. What does this verse mean? Write down some thoughts on how you can apply it. The most important thing is to ask yourself: “How will I be different today because of what I’ve just read?”
Prayer – Write a prayer stemming from what you have just read, observed, and chosen to apply. By actually putting your prayer on paper, you will have something to come back to months or years down the road. Once the prayer is written in your journal, pray it silently or out loud.
Bob’s Example:
Desire & Power 9/6
Scripture – Philippians 2:13: For God is working in you, giving you the desire to obey him and the power to do what pleases him.
Application – Paul says that God is working in me. So often I think I need to change within my own willpower. Certainly I need to be an active participant, because the verse before this one says, Put into action God’s saving work in your lives. But this verse says that God is the primary change agent in my life, not me. So there are two ways I can know that God is in the process of changing me: When I have the desire to obey him, and the power to do it.
Prayer – God, sometimes I neither have the desire or the power to do any of this, yet you never give up on me. I invite you to continue to work in me, helping me to become the person you want. Give me the desire and power to do it.
Amen.
Good night all! We have an exciting challenge ahead of us. Let’s make sure we all keep each other accountable for completing it!
